Our Key Ingredients…

Our Primary Waxes…

Soy Wax

Soy wax is a plant-based wax, rich in Vitamin E, that helps balance firmness and spreadability in the balm. It contributes to a softer, more flexible texture than harder waxes alone, allowing the balm to apply smoothly without excessive drag. In SUI WASSER, soy wax supports a lighter feel while still reinforcing the skin’s surface barrier.

Our Primary Oils…

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, which makes it especially well-tolerated and effective at supporting moisture balance. Rather than sitting heavily on the skin, it helps condition and soften while integrating naturally with the skin barrier. Jojoba oil is often used in formulations designed for sensitive or stressed skin.

Beeswax

Locally sourced Beeswax is used in SUI WASSER to form a breathable protective barrier on the skin. It helps reduce moisture loss without sealing the skin completely, allowing it to remain comfortable while shielding it from cold, wind, and dry air. Beeswax has been used for generations in skin care for its stability and its ability to support barrier function in harsh environments.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Meadowfoam seed oil is prized for its exceptional stability and long-lasting moisture support. It helps the balm remain effective on the skin over time, providing a smooth, cushioning feel without heaviness. Its resistance to oxidation makes it particularly well suited for post-exposure care and outdoor use.

Sunflower Oil

High-Oleic Sunflower Oil is rich in essential fatty acids that support the skin barrier. It helps replenish lipids that can be depleted by sun, wind, and cold exposure, contributing to improved comfort and resilience. This oil is lightweight, non-occlusive, and commonly used to support recovery in dry or irritated skin.

(High-Oleic, specifically, means the oil contains a much higher percentage of oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid, than conventional versions of the same oil.)

Our Supporting Oils…

Wild Carrot Seed Oil

Wild Carrot Seed Oil (a.k.a. Queen Anne's Lace) has long been valued in skincare for its naturally occurring antioxidants and skin-conditioning properties. Rich in beneficial plant compounds, it helps support the skin’s natural barrier while promoting a healthy, revitalized appearance. Traditionally used to care for skin exposed to sun, wind, and the elements, Wild Carrot Seed Oil is a prized ingredient in premium outdoor skincare formulations, where its nourishing and restorative qualities help leave skin feeling soft, comfortable, and refreshed..

Sea Buckthorn Oil

Sea buckthorn oil offers powerful health and cosmetic advantages. Packed with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as rare omega-7 fatty acids, it deeply hydrates the skin, repairs the skin barrier, reduces inflammation, supports heart health, and relieves dry eyes and mucous membranes. Our Sea Buckthorne Oil comes from Siberia.

Arnica Infused Oil

Arnica Montan (commonly called mountain daisy or leopard's bane) is a perennial mountain plant with yellow flowers. It is widely used in alternative medicine and topical gels—such as Boiron Arnicare—to help ease muscle pain, swelling, stiffness, and bruises.

Arnica montana is a yellow-flowering botanical native to the mountainous regions of Europe, where it has a long history of traditional topical use. Our Arnica-infused oil is produced by slowly macerating Arnica flowers in sunflower carrier oil, allowing the oil-soluble components of the plant to become part of the infusion.

Why we use it: Botanical skin conditioning • Soothing care • Post-activity massage • Outdoor recovery

Bakuchiol Oil

Plant-Based Retinol Alternative

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived skincare active associated with the seeds and leaves of Psoralea corylifolia (babchi). Often described as a plant-based alternative to retinol, bakuchiol is used to help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven tone, texture, and overall skin radiance—without actually being a retinoid.

We use Bakuchiol Oil in Alpin-Glow as part of its skin-longevity-focused formula, complementing antioxidant and conditioning ingredients designed for mature and repeatedly outdoor-exposed skin.

Why we use it: Fine lines + texture • Even-looking tone • Skin radiance • Plant-based retinol alternative

Argan Oil

Argan Oil is a rich botanical oil pressed from the kernels found inside the fruit of the Argania spinosa tree, a species native to Morocco’s arid landscapes. The oil contains a naturally high proportion of oleic and linoleic fatty acids and is valued in skincare as a conditioning emollient that helps soften, smooth, and replenish dry skin.

Its combination of nourishing lipids and naturally occurring minor components has made Argan Oil particularly popular in products designed for dry, mature, and environmentally stressed skin. In SUI WASSER formulations, we use it to contribute botanical conditioning, richness, and a soft, supple afterfeel.

INCI:Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Our Supporting Ingredients…

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

Vitamin E (Tocopherol) is a powerful antioxidant, derrived from plants, that helps support skin health and protect the oils in the formulation from oxidation. It has a long history of use in skin care, particularly in products designed to address environmental stress. In SUI WASSER, Vitamin E is a foundational ingredient that supports both skin comfort and formulation stability.

Bisabolol

Targeted Skin-Calming Support

Bisabolol is a naturally derived compound traditionally sourced from chamomile and the Candeia tree. Known for its exceptional skin-soothing properties, it is widely used in high-performance skincare designed for sensitive or environmentally stressed skin.

Benefits:

  • Helps reduce the appearance of redness

  • Supports skin comfort after wind and sun exposure

  • Enhances skin tolerance in extreme climates

  • Works synergistically with antioxidant systems

Bisabolol aligns with our goal of supporting alpine skin that faces cold air, UV reflection, and rapid temperature shifts.

Coco-Caprylate

A premium plant-derived ester, sourced from Cocos nucifera or Coconut Palm. It is not a raw oil in the traditional sense. It’s widely used in modern, high-quality skincare because it improves feel without adding heaviness or greasiness.

Our Supporting Additives

Definition: Supporting additives are functional ingredients used in relatively small amounts, typically less than 5% each of total volume, to fine-tune the performance, stability, texture, skin feel, and staying power of our balms.

Unlike the primary oils, waxes, and emollients that make up the majority of a formulation, supporting additives typically represent only a small percentage of the finished balm—often individually measured in fractions of a percent to just a few percent. Their presence may be small by volume, but their purpose is very specific. We use them intentionally, at levels appropriate to the function they perform, rather than as inexpensive fillers or ingredients added simply to increase product volume.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THDA)

Purpose: Advanced Vitamin C Antioxidant Protection & Skin Conditioning

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THDA) is a highly stable, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C. Unlike traditional Vitamin C, THDA blends easily into anhydrous balms and penetrates effectively into the skin, where it helps support the skin’s natural defenses against environmental stress while promoting a healthy, revitalized appearance.

Potential Benefits:

  • Provides antioxidant protection against free radical damage

  • Helps support skin exposed to UV and environmental stressors

  • Promotes a brighter, healthier-looking complexion

  • Supports collagen production and skin firmness

  • Helps improve the appearance of uneven skin tone

  • Works synergistically with Vitamin E and other antioxidants

  • Remains stable in oil-based formulations

  • Suitable for sensitive skin compared to some traditional forms of Vitamin C

Why We Use It:

Outdoor athletes, workers, and adventurers face daily exposure to sun, wind, cold, and dry air. THDA helps support the skin’s natural recovery processes by delivering a stable, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C that complements the antioxidant-rich ingredients found throughout SUI WASSER Recovery+.

Ceramide Complex (NP/AP)

Purposes: Barrier Lipid Restoration

Cold air and wind strip natural ceramides from the skin. Adding a cosmetic-grade ceramide complex could help restore the skin’s natural lipid matrix.

Potential benefits:

• Strengthens barrier integrity

• Improves moisture retention

• Supports recovery from environmental exposure

This would move the balm toward a more clinically structured barrier-repair system.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10 / Ubiquinone)

Purpose: Antioxidant Protection & Cellular Energy Support

Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble vitamin-like substance present in every cell of the human body. A coenzyme is a substance that enhances or is necessary for the action of enzymes. They are generally much smaller than enzymes themselves. Coenzyme Q10 is a coenzyme vital to production of energy within cells. It is also a very powerful antioxidant or free radical scavenger. Synthesized by the human body, it starts out at low levels when we are very young, reaches its peak in our young adulthood and shows a gradual decline after the age of 20, even as the body's demand for it grows. Topically applied, CoQ10 can penetrate the cell layers of the skin and may attenuate the depth of wrinkles due to photo aging, as well as epithelial cell turnover. Kerotinocyte cells make up the majority of human skin cells and CoQ10 has been shown to protect these skin cells from oxidative DNA damage induced by ultraviolet light. CoQ10 supports the body's natural defense mechanism against the damaging effects of free radicals, particularly the lipid per oxidation in skin. It is a useful cosmetic ingredient for skin care and sun protection products.

Potential Benefits:

  • Helps defend against free radical damage

  • Supports the skin’s natural antioxidant defenses

  • Helps mitigate oxidative stress associated with UV exposure

  • Supports skin vitality and resilience

  • Works synergistically with Vitamin E

  • Helps maintain the appearance of healthy skin

  • Supports recovery from environmental stressors such as sun, wind, cold, and dry air

Why We Use It:

For people who spend long days outdoors, skin is constantly challenged by environmental exposure. CoQ10 helps support the skin’s natural recovery processes, making it an ideal ingredient for SUI WASSER’s recovery mission.

Squalane

Purposes: Lightweight Barrier Reinforcement

Squalane is a stable, skin-compatible lipid that mimics components naturally found in the skin’s protective barrier. It provides softness without heaviness and supports moisture retention in extreme climates.

Potential benefits:

  • Helps reduce moisture loss in dry, cold air

  • Supports skin suppleness and flexibility

  • Enhances spreadability without greasiness

  • Reinforces barrier comfort during exposure

Squalane allows our balms to remain protective while maintaining elegant wearability.

Dimethicone (Anti-Chafing Balm)

Purposes: Lightweight, Anti-Friction, Breathable Barrier. Dimethicone clear, odorless silicone-based polymer widely used in topical skincare. Dimethicone is the only non-plant derived additive used in our Balms.

When skin has been compromised by friction, maintaining moisture is critical. Dimethicone is the only additive we use that challenges our philosophy. But there is no alternative. Nothing creates an invisible, breathable shield that supports the skin’s natural barrier and helps reduce moisture loss like Dimethicone. Its silky, non-greasy feel improves glide and comfort while helping protect exposed skin from further environmental stress, making it an ideal ingredient for outdoor recovery-focused skincare.

Benefits:

  • Establishes a clear anti-friction film

  • Reinforces barrier comfort during exposure

  • Helps reduce moisture loss in dry, cold air

  • Supports skin suppleness and flexibility

  • Enhances spreadability without greasiness

Dimethicone & Squalane allows SUI WASSER balms to remain protective while maintaining elegant wearability.

Polybutene (PolyB)

Polybutene is a functional performance ingredient used in Alpin-Glow to improve adhesion, film formation, and staying power on the skin. PolyB’s job in our balm is primarily on the surface:

adhere → form a film → remain substantive → help the balm stay put.

Unlike lightweight oils that can absorb, migrate, or rub away relatively quickly, Polybutene helps Alpin-Glow maintain a more persistent, substantive layer on the skin. Its film-forming properties help hold the balm—and its carefully selected oils and oil-soluble ingredients—in place for longer-lasting conditioning and protection.

For our balms, Polybutene serves three important purposes:

  • Better Adhesion: Helps the balm adhere to the skin and remain where it is applied.

  • Film Formation: Contributes to the persistent protective layer that distinguishes an anhydrous balm from a conventional lotion.

  • Staying Power: Adds substantivity to the formula, helping Alpin-Glow remain on the skin rather than behaving like a collection of rapidly spreading oils.

Why we use it: Polybutene isn’t included simply to fill space or add volume. It performs a specific job. It helps transform Alpin-Glow’s concentrated blend of oils and skin-conditioning ingredients into a cohesive, persistent balm designed to stay with the skin for hours after application.
